Insecticides From Plants

چکیده
stabilizer such as cane sugar to liquid lime-sulfur and evaporating to dryncss. Self-boiled lime-sulfur is made by utilizing the heat of hydration or slaking of quicklime, CaO, to carry on the reactions with sulfur. Ammonium polysulfide and sodium polysulfide are made by passing hydrogen Sulfide gas, H.^S, into ammonium or sodium hydroxide containing excess sulfur. It is supposed that the chemical reactions are similar to those taking place in the preparation of lime-sulfur. Sulfur is used under some conditions for the control of potato leafhopper, the cotton fleahopper, tomato psyllid, mites, and plant bugs. Organic sulfur compounds, including thiocyanates, xanthates, and thiuram disulfides, have some insecticidal properties although they are used largely as fungicides. Sulfur dioxide, SO2, made by burning sulfur, is sometimes used to kill insects in closed spaces. Thallium sulfate, Tl^SO^, sometimes is used as the toxic agent in ant poisons. Several zinc compounds are in limited use as insecticides. Zinc sulfate, ZnS04, is sometimes used in place of copper sulfate in reactions with hydrated lime to form a zinc bordeaux mixture that has special uses. Zinc chloride, ZnCl^, is used to protect against termites.

Systemic Insecticides and Their Use in Ornamental Plant Systems
Systemic insecticides are compounds that may be applied to plants as a foliar spray or to the soil/ growing medium as a drench or granules. These materials are absorbed by roots or into other tissues and then translocated to plant parts. This may then protect plants from damage associated with phloem-feeding insects such as the Hemipterans including aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, and soft scale...
متن کاملInsecticides reduce survival and the expression of traits associated with carnivory of carnivorous plants.
While agrochemical pollution is thought to be an important conservation threat to carnivorous plants, the effects of insecticides on these taxa have not been quantified previously. Using a combination of lab- and field-based experiments, we tested the effects of commercial and technical grades of three widely used insecticides (carbaryl, lambda-cyhalothrin, and malathion) on survival and the ex...
متن کاملNon-cultivated plants present a season-long route of pesticide exposure for honey bees
Recent efforts to evaluate the contribution of neonicotinoid insecticides to worldwide pollinator declines have focused on honey bees and the chronic levels of exposure experienced when foraging on crops grown from neonicotinoid-treated seeds. However, few studies address non-crop plants as a potential route of pollinator exposure to neonicotinoid and other insecticides. Here we show that polle...

Chemical insecticides application for pest control pose serious impacts on human health and environment. Nowadays, intensified efforts to find safer and environmentally friendly alternatives have resulted in identification and production of some plant-derived natural ingredients that can use against insect pests. Amongst these plants, feverfew, Tanacetum parthenium (L.) Sch.Bip., from Asteracea...

متن کاملNeonicotinoid Insecticides Alter Induced Defenses and Increase Susceptibility to Spider Mites in Distantly Related Crop Plants
BACKGROUND Chemical suppression of arthropod herbivores is the most common approach to plant protection. Insecticides, however, can cause unintended, adverse consequences for non-target organisms. Previous studies focused on the effects of pesticides on target and non-target pests, predatory arthropods, and concomitant ecological disruptions. Little research, however, has focused on the direct ...
